CATS: WHAT TO DO IN THE EVENT OF FREEZING

Freezing is a rather infrequent event in our climates but, if the animal is exposed to very low temperatures, as in the case of staying on ice or snow, it can show signs of frostbite on the peripheral parts of the body (tips of the ears , extremities of the limbs, tail and scrotum), which initially appear cold and pale, subsequently dark and lose sensitivity due to the onset of necrosis.

The patient has hypothermia (temperature below 37.5 ° C), slow heart rhythm, unconscious state.

HOW SHOULD YOU INTERVENE:

It should be heated gradually, bringing it to a warm environment, wrapping it in a blanket and using a hot water bottle. On the frozen part, gauze compresses soaked in warm water (at a temperature of about 30 ° C) can be applied or it can be immersed and then carefully dried with a hairdryer, pending the visit by the veterinarian.
