BEWARE OF THE CHRISTMAS STAR: IT'S TOXIC TO OUR A-BUGS

We are in the Christmas period and many of us are given the famous plant: "Christmas Star". If we live with our cats we must avoid keeping the plant at home: "Christmas star" also known as Euphorbia pulcherrima or Poinsettia. This ornamental plant is toxic to our cats.

Inside its trunk and branches there is a milky substance (latex), slightly irritating to our skin but toxic to cats (even dogs). In addition to the sap, the leaves and the stem are also poisonous for our 4-legged friends. If they were to eat them in large quantities, gnaw them or come into contact with them, they could have problems of intoxication or irritation, sometimes even serious.

LET'S SEE TOGETHER WHAT THE SYMPTOMS MAY BE AND HOW TO RUN FOR SHELTERS TO SAFE OUR LITTLE CURIOUS FELINE WHO HAS COME IN CONTACT WITH THE HARMFUL PLANT:

Irritation of the mouth, esophagus, stomach and intestines, cough, suffocation, retching, vomiting, diarrhea, colic pains, temporary blindness.

LET'S SEE TOGETHER WHAT WE CAN DO IF OUR CAT SWALLOWS OR GOES INTO CONTACT WITH THIS PLANT:

Take the little one to the vet right away. The therapy will be proposed by our trusted veterinarian once visited and found the symptoms on which to intervene promptly, the therapy will be the same as in cases of ingestion of other poisonous or irritating substances. If the cat eats large quantities or a whole plant, the veterinarian will evaluate whether it is necessary to carry out a gastric lavage or to make our cat vomit.
